Roots of Wisdom

Roots of Wisdom is a contemplative, two-phase research-creation project by Hamilton-based artist David Rayfield that explores the deeply personal experience of end-of-life decision-making. Rooted in research on values, goals, and the meaning of a “good death”, the installation invites reflection on dignity, autonomy, and connection at life’s final stages. Drawing on the cultural and philosophical symbolism of trees, the project uses a growing sapling as a metaphor for how knowledge, experience, and care shape our understanding of living and dying well.
